Google Core & Additional Services
In Weber School District, the Google platform is used to provide email, online productivity and collaboration tools, and other Google learning tools for students and teachers. Google accounts are also used by other educational tools as a login option for access. These accounts are essential for teaching and learning.
Google divides its education products into two categories: Core Services and Additional Services. Google's Core Services include Gmail, Calendar, Docs, Sheets, and several others, as listed below. By default, these are turned on for schools based on Weber School District’s educational agreement with Google. Within Google Core Services, personal information is only used to deliver the service. Google Additional Services consist of some of Google’s commercial products. While personal information is protected in both Core and Additional services, Google Core Services provide stricter protections. Within Google Additional Services, student data is used to improve the service or to develop new services. Additionally, contextual ads are sometimes used in Additional Services. Please refer to this guide from Google for more information.
