Glen Porter retirement

After 26 incredible years as a counselor, we are celebrating the retirement of a true cornerstone of our school community, Glen Porter.

Mr. Porter has dedicated his entire counseling career to SOJH, supporting and guiding generations of students with care, consistency, and heart. Before joining us, he spent 5 years working in Youth Corrections, bringing that experience and perspective into his work with students every day.

A proud former South Ogden Junior High student himself, Mr. Porter has come full circle, giving back to the very place that helped shape him. His journey took him from playing baseball at Snow College to graduating from Weber State University, and eventually earning his Master’s degree in school counseling from the University of Phoenix.

Beyond the counseling office, Mr. Porter has made a lasting impact as a coach. He has led and mentored student athletes in basketball, baseball, and football at SOJH, coached baseball at Bonneville High School, and girls softball at Weber State. His influence extends far beyond wins and losses, he has helped shape the character, confidence, and futures of countless young people.

Mr. Porter is beloved by students, athletes, and faculty alike. His steady presence, sense of humor, and genuine care for others have made South Ogden Junior High a better place for over two decades. Teachers who know Glen have seen him handle difficult situations with a steady calm presence. He somehow mixes a calm exterior with a compassionate warmth. We will miss his dead pan humor in our meetings!

Thank you, Glen, for your years of dedication, mentorship, and service. Your legacy will live on in the lives of the many students and athletes you’ve impacted.

Enjoy your well-earned retirement, you will be deeply missed!

We are celebrating Glen with an open house. Please join us to share memories and wish him well!
