North Park Elementary is located at 4230 South 2175 West in the north end of Roy, Utah. The school sits in an established residential housing area. We are home of the “Tigers” and our school colors are black and orange.
North Park was built in 1959, and was designed as an open concept school. Its large frying pan design was considered an example of one of our nation’s exceptional modern architectural schools. In 1960-1961, ten more classes were added to the school, completing the circle. We currently have 8 portables. We serve students in K-6th grades and are home to 2 Life Skills Units. We have a full time counselor, ESL teacher, speech teacher, Reading and Math specialist, and a school nurse. We serve approximately 384 students and employ 28 teachers and 24 support staff. Our students attend Sand Ridge Jr. High School, and Roy High School. All of our students walk to school with the exception of our two Life Skills classes. Many of students attend the Boys and Girls Club after school.
We are a Title 1 School. In addition to providing lower class sizes, we offer full day Kindergarten, and provide additional academic support to our struggling students. Our classrooms are equipped with up-to-date technology and our support staff and teachers are highly qualified. We share the “No Excuses University" philosophy with the other Title 1 schools in our district: We actively promote a comprehensive model of college readiness to all our students. We believe that every child should be preparing to attend college. Approximately 60 students from NP participated in summer school the 2010- 2011 school year.
New this year: We have added a second computer lab, and our students will participate in the Fresh Fruit and Vegetable Program. The FFVP will provide a variety of free fresh fruits and vegetables to all enrolled students in school throughout the school day. Students will be introduced to new and different fruits and vegetables along with nutrition education. In addition to our school lunch program, we serve breakfast daily, from 8:00-8:25 a.m. We are participants of the Weber School Districts Summer Food Program and provide free lunch to all children 18 and younger from 11:30-12:30, Monday through Thursday, June 6th through July 28th.
We believe that Character counts. Our school Counselor teaches character building lessons weekly in every class, Students learn about respect, responsibility, caring, trustworthiness, fairness and citizenship. We have a Peer Leader Program that provides students with opportunities to serve and develop their leadership skills. Their goal is to create a positive school climate, encourage school pride, personal and school excellence, and exemplify responsibility and accountability.
Weber School District has adopted the Utah Common Core. North Park is actively engaged in staff development and implementation. Our highly trained teachers are continually attending professional development to enhance their skills and improve student learning.
