Movi Technology Helps Optimize Educational Time

On Tuesday, October 11th, the junior high softball season concluded in Weber School District.  As is customary, a meeting to set the playoff schedule needed to be held and was set for the four coaches, principals and the Secondary Supervisor Bill Grillz.  What was not customary was the location of the meeting.  Each of the parties involved were able to participate in this meeting from their home school because of a new technology provided by Weber District Technical Services through UEN (Utah Education Network) called MOVI.  MOVI is a "video bridge" system that allows multiple users to participate in a real-time, online format from their home location, with HD quality sound and picture.

Time away from school and their students is something that we always want to minimize for principals and with this new technology principals can save as much as two hours per meeting by having the meetings "come to them" rather than the usual go to the meeting routine.  This school year in Secondary Education alone, we have been able to hold many meetings that would normally be held at the district office, online with the principals involved, which has in turn saved the principals and teachers a great amount of travel and prep time.  MOVI is one of the great technological advances that Weber District has embraced and is using to optimize educational time and spend it where it most needs to be spent….with students!
